This story stretches from the first Anders Frantzen (1720-98), a copy-holder under the estate of Borglum Kloster by the wild North Sea of Denmark, to his grandson's future as school-master on the milder East Coast.  The slight and intelligent son of a small-holder develops a passion for astronomy and in spite of powerty and tradition he stears toward a different future.  The astronomy is with him all the way through family tragedies and war with a strong commitment to his task as school-master and head of a large family spreading also to the United States.
