What one sees with the eyes is only the skin of the world. Thus begins this gripping mystery set in Roman times, The Legend of Atticus Rex, Book I: The Amulet.

The year is 382 AD. A volcano belches fumes that smell like rotten eggs, the ground shakes and cracks. Barbarians from the North are threatening Rome.

Like his father, Marcus, brave young Gabriel wants to become a Roman soldier when he's older, but he'll need to overcome a secret fear. He dreads being alone at night as the dark shadows waver on his bedroom walls. When a messenger arrives at the family home with orders for Marcus to lead a small troop of well-trained Roman soldiers and war dogs on a special mission, Gabriel seizes the opportunity to tag along. This would be a dream adventure for any kid wanting to become a soldier, even if it means traveling in the dark. But his exciting adventure soon shifts to dark mystery as Marcus and Titus try to protect the procession of horses and wagons against whatever is behind the ominous clues they're uncovering in the Crimson Forest. After escaping the forest, completing their mission, and grabbing a little well-deserved shuteye in a barn, the group begins their journey home, only to come face to face with the unimaginable. Marcus and the soldiers quickly realize their earthly weaponry and fighting- skills are no match for what is not from this earth. This wicked force cannot be defeated!

As Marcus struggles to find a way to save his son from certain death, a war dog inadvertently discovers what may be the key to their survival, but the power of the amulet will need to be understood if they are to survive.

Gabriel must confront his greatest fears and the diabolical master plan of a malevolent enemy must be uncovered before every living creature on earth disappears.

Action, mystery and adventure abound in this fast-paced thriller, sure to capture and hold the attention of readers 7 and up. Detachable Atticus Rex Amulet embedded in the front cover provides protection from the shadows!
