Synopsis

"""America's favorite writer"" (The New Yorker) begins a trilogy inspired by the inn she owns and the town she loves.

The historic hotel in BoonsBoro, Maryland, has endured war and peace, changing hands, even rumored hauntings. Now it's getting a major facelift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect of the family, Beckett has little time for a social life. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was sixteen.

After losing her husband and returning to her hometown, Clare Brewster soon settles into her life as the mother of three young sons while running the town’s bookstore. Though busy, Clare is drawn across the street by Beckett’s transformation of the old inn, wanting to take a closer look…at both the building and the man behind it...

An effective infomercial—and guest-room sleep-aid—for Inn BoonsBoro.

It’s a fast read, especially when I’m basically skimming most of the stuff about the inn, but there was way too much of that. And yes, I noted the reference to Eve and Roarke. The romance part gets a B but the information brochure about the Inn Boonsboro got old very quickly...

With Clare and Beckett, Roberts creates a sweet romance that offers a second chance for both of them. I especially liked that Clare's boys are an important part of the story – in order to win over Clare, Beckett has to win over her sons too.

It was funny the first time but by the end it was like ok, maybe it’s time to man up and tell Mother to rein it in a little. But all in all this was pretty much what I was looking for. It was an easy enough read, not taxing at all and the simplicity and lack of conflict was actually rather relaxing.
