--Excerpt--
Daniel was as good as his word. The restaurant was opulent, with obsequious waiters and a menu I could barely understand. Daniel was charming, confessing that he didn't speak a word of French either. He told me his usual strategy was to choose something in the top quarter of the price range, and assume it would be delicious, whatever it turned out to be.
I've never been a picky eater and I followed his suggestion. The evening flew by with the conversation never lagging. We didn't talk shop, either; we found plenty in common (films, walks, politics) and some interesting points of discussion (he followed sport, I did not; he liked rap, I preferred rock). I was laughing more than I had in many months. I didn't think I had been unhappy – but Daniel took me to a new level of contentment.
So when he invited me back to his place, I agreed without hesitation.
"For coffee?" I asked.
A smouldering look made him narrow his eyes as he helped me on with my coat. "For coffee," he agreed. "If that's what you want. I may have something else you would prefer instead."
"Such as?"
He led me out to the waiting taxi. "Coffee keeps people awake too much. I think we need to explore ways of relaxing."
"That sounds… divine," I told him.
"Excellent."
His apartment was over two floors in an exclusive, gated area of town. It wasn't decorated in quite the austere bachelor style I'd expected. If anything, it was a cosy and relaxing place. Daniel led me through to a pleasant living room, filled with books. Colourful prints on the walls matched the throws and cushions. It was the sort of place one could breathe without worrying about leaving finger marks on the door handles.
I turned to him, and he wrapped his arms around me in an embrace. We fell into a passionate kiss immediately. I ran my hands up under his suit jacket, and then down over his taut buttocks. He kissed with energy, his lips pulling at mine, and his tongue darted into my mouth. His hands roamed my body and it set me on fire; I wanted bare flesh against bare flesh, right now.
