Synopsis

The Soldier's Seed, the first book of the Southern Skyes family saga, is a novel that captures the wide range of relationships between colonial, convict, and indigenous families during the tumultuous events that defined the early penal colonies of Australia. Nicholas Thomas, a soldier in the New South Wales Corps, loathes his life in Sydney Town and through a series of events of his own making he finds himself running from his past to what could be an even worse fate. While pioneering a new settlement that encounters one problem after another, he struggles to find his true self and identify what he really wants from life . . . until he meets a woman a soldier shouldn't love. When tragedy strikes, he is forced to make choices that will affect his descendants for decades to come. The Soldier's Seed is a heart-rending adventure and an exciting introduction to Australian history and the epic Southern Skyes series.

Sharyn Bradford Lunn was born in Sydney, Australia, where she started her formal education, but when she was nine years old her family moved to a small country town where it was continued. The family returned to Sydney ten years later so she is quite comfortable living in either the big smoke or a rural hideaway. After briefly working in a telephone exchange then a kindergarten, Sharyn started a career in nursing. She read Alex Haley's "Roots" and developed a passion for genealogy and history so when she discovered a new interest in writing she was naturally drawn to historical fiction where her love for both seemed to go hand in hand. Sharyn is working on the Australian historical fiction series "Southern Skyes" which is an epic a family saga. The first book, "The Soldier's Seed" is about a private in the New South Wales Corps - a bit of a ladies' man - who regrets the situation in which he finds himself and embarks on another adventure that turns out to be even more perilous. Against all odds, he survives to became the family patriach, establishing two very distinct and different lines of descent.
