I honestly don’t know how Ms. Mallery does it, but she has created a much-loved institution. I’m always up for more Fool’s Gold.

Synopsis

Can first love turn into the real deal? Anything can happen in a sizzling new Fool's Gold story from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery.

Isabel Beebe thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another…man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again…..

Seeing Isabel all grown-up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes—or his lips—off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever—if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same.

I think that Susan Mallery is a talented storyteller, however Three Little Words was a miss for me. I needed more scenes between the leads, more tension or suspense, or more time with Consuelo and Kent. Sadly, none of those things happened so I would not recommend this read.

What works for this story is that both Ford and Isabel are so similar when it comes their past love lives. When Ford’s former best friend points out the truth to Ford I loved it.

I am never disappointed when I visit Fool’s Gold but this might be my favorite book of the series (and that is saying something) in a while. Maybe I was just like Isabel and had a crush on Ford even before he came back to town but having spent time with him I fell in love!

Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips should really enjoy, this book was reminiscent of Phillips’ Wynette Texas series, so if you like those, you’ll love Fool’s Gold.

Three Little Words is actually a two-for-one romance. Not only do you get to watch Ford and Isabel battle their growing feelings, but Ford's brother, a single dad, also finds himself falling head over heels for Ford's co-worker, a military woman with a rough background. This made it feel like you got a bonus!
