Swept up in an adventure she never dreamed, Kate throws in with Simon, a treasure hunter with dark hair and a dark past. The two of them race against the clock, a shadowy group of pursuers, and against their desire for one another to reach the TOMB OF THE LOST PHARAOH before it's too late!
This story is intended for mature audiences only, and features thrilling car chases, mummy mysteries, ancient tombs, steamy sex, and is 27,000 words in length.
Their car surged forward, sprinting down the side street. It was narrower than the main road the’d been on, with buildings looming uncomfortably close on either side. There were no pedestrians here, much to Kate’s relief. Simon coaxed the car up to speed once more, flashing a glance into the rear view. Sirens still split the air, drawing inexorably closer.
“I’m open to suggestions,” Simon said, arching an eyebrow and turning his head a bit to the side towards her.
“Pull over,” Karim said.
“Shut up, Karim!” Kate and Simon roared simultaneously. Their passenger in back flinched, and a hysterical giggle clawed out of her. She saw Simon smile, shaking his head, and felt a grin of her own blossom.
“Let me think,” Kate said. She glanced around the car, frantic to find something, anything to help.
“Think quicker,” Simon urged. He nodded towards the rear view mirror. “Tall, wide and ugly is closing again.”
“I know,” Kate shot back, scowling. She flicked open the glove box and rifled around inside. Papers spilled out onto the floor, but nothing of any use. She swore again and punched the dash.
“You’re pretty sexy when you’re afraid for your life,” Simon said. He grunted as he flicked the wheel, dodging around a bicyclist in the narrow confines of the road.
“That’s just about every moment since we met,” Kate said. She glanced behind them, chewing at her cheek in thought. I guess it’s up to me, then, she thought. Her fingers shook as she reached for her seatbelt. At the reckless speeds the tiny car was careening about at, if they hit anything, she wouldn’t have to worry about it hurting. They’d just have to hose her out of the car. Someone had to do something, though, and Karim was useless. She sighed and hit the button, letting her belt retract.
