Tony Casillo grew up in Florence and Naples with a large, closely knit extended family. At the age of 12, his family emigrated to Buffalo, New York, where times were hard, and Tony had to prepare family meals. By necessity and practice, he learned his family's traditional recipes and how to make the most of humble ingredients. He later moved to England and traveled extensively, especially to Italy. He was always on the lookout for original recipes and ingredients throughout his travels and over the years has written extensively on food, wine, and cooking.
