Watersheds, those pivotal moments after which nothing is quite the same, form a fluid theme for this collection of bits and pieces. It could be as inconsequential as getting through a difficult day with a relative and looking forward to better times ahead, as in the Jane Austen-inspired first story. Or it could be the prospect of personal transformation, or a sudden realization, or even the end of civilization as we know it.
