Synopsis

The second volume in an stirring new science fiction trilogy. The Universe has enjoyed an uneasy peace for five years. Constantine Blas is no longer in the navy, and he visits the Planet Hesperia with his partner, Evelyn Gluck. The new rulers have engaged on a programme of extermination of the native population, and the soldiers who fought for the Republic are discharged and discredited. To his astonishment, a man appears who claims to be Xerxes Tell the rightful President of the Nine Systems.

Reunited with his old comrades from the Second War of the Systems, Blas discovers that their victory was hollow. Their old enemies have taken power, this time by stealth. Once again, populations are starving and dying at the hands of the despotic rulers who hold sway over every planet in the Nine Systems. There can only be one option for those who hold liberty dear above life itself. The fightback is about to begin.

Once again, the enigmatic Orphexian mind reader, Evelyn Gluck, is called upon to join the struggle. Thus begins another chapter in the saga of treachery and betrayal. The story of a few good men who must pick up the flag and fight for the liberty of all humanity.
