Erotic, brutal, mysterious and moving, The Zero Train takes place at a lonely Soviet railway settlement run by the secret police. Employees suspect something sinister about the unknown cargo of a sealed 100-car train; they become increasingly obsessed with the provenance of the Zero Train. The denoument leads to madness and murder. The Zero Train is also a dense web of symbols examining the nature of life lived in the service of an ideal neither known or understood -- a study of the ordinary individual under Stalinism.
