    Ms. Shinn is a very talented author, but her vision of romantic love is so far removed from mine that I kept wondering if she was writing a satire of a romance novel showcasing abusive physical and emotional relationships.

    Although not as action-packed as many fantasy novels in today’s market, The Shape of Desire is a deeply satisfying read. It is filled with the wonder and marvel of magic and the hope that maybe, if we look hard enough, we’ll find such mysteries in our everyday world.

    It's a slow story.  But it is also a simple and heartfelt story, told with grace and stark beauty, with complex characters who have complex motivations, who make difficult choices.

    I also really liked what I took as the theme of the novel–that love comes in as many shapes as humans (or shifters) and that we should never try to judge how or what someone else loves.
