At a certain point, Vern’s detail can be exhausting however; at over 400 pages, the book just feels way too long.

Synopsis

Vern, the self-styled 'outlaw film critic' is described by Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro as "equal parts Hell's Angels and Pauline Kael... a national treasure!"

Now Vern unleashes his magnum opus: an in-depth study of the world's only aikido instructor turned movie star/director/writer/blues guitarist/energy drink inventor, the ass-kicking auteur Steven Seagal.

"A book that'll shake the very foundations of film criticism, break their wrists and then throw them through a window."

About Vern

The writer known only as Vern is loved for his unorthodox reviewing style and his expertise in "the films of Badass Cinema." His review of the slasher movie Chaos earned him a wrestling challenge from its director; his explosive essay on the PG-13 rating of Live Free or Die Hard prompted Bruce Willis himself to walk barefoot across the broken glass of movie message boards to respond.

This book will force you to reconsider the man, and you may see this badass in a new light, however much you loved or hated him before. If only all film scholars paid this much attention to their subjects.

It's during this section that the book dragged in parts. . .I found myself getting tangled and unengaged.

If it had been written by anyone other than Vern I truly don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it as much as I did.
