Synopsis

The book, "Glimpses of Europe", has within its cover everything about the continent since first century and before in a compressed, selected, focused and readable format, highlighting the special features that define Europe and about the countries within the Elbe, in the east, and the Pyrenees, in the west. Also included in the book are the countries of the Mediterranean basin. We treat them as European for purpose of the book which is meant to be read straight forwardly, almost as a novel. It gives, in the most general way, an account of European history shorn of elaborations and complications, providing the reader a framework for the study of a particular country. The book seeks to meet the needs of general readers, too work-driven to study in detail, and who still wishes to refresh and repair his faded or fragmentary idea of the great adventures of mankind. This is a generalized history, planned and written afresh. It will interest history students, general readers for ready reference, policy makers, travellers, diplomats, speech writers and even the uninitiated ones, keen on knowing about Europe, a Continent of Destiny.
