Synopsis

On a damp cloud mountain in Rhodesia, Africa, a pair of infant gorillas, Sebastian and Lex, are captured and transported to a research center in Minneapolis, MN. There the two are separated. While Lex becomes the subject of grim medical experimentation, Sebastian is singled out, to teach him not only sign language, but to actually speak, and so enjoys every comfort, growing up side by side with a researcher’s young daughter, Laurel. But several years and many surgeries later, Sebastian has yet to utter a single word. Disaster strikes when the Great Ape dies in a fire. After some years abroad at university, Laurel, now a young woman, returns to the States to reconnect with her father, and is introduced to his mysterious new patient, Joseph Young. But nothing is as it seems, and Joseph Young, Laurel, and her father begin an epic journey of self-discovery.
