Synopsis

Excerpt from The Adoration of the Kings

Neither have our Church Musicians and Poets been found lacking in devotion to the Kings and their Star.

Although it had been easy to find plenty of good Carols by none but English writers, contemporary with the great Italian and Flemish Painters (some of whose work is reproduced in this volume) it was considered advisable rather to make the letterpress work representative of Carols, or Poems, down from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, in order that the reader might compare for himself the character, spirit, and merits of the various pieces chosen, and form his opinion accordingly.
