The accused: It was his own fault. I owed him only ten dollars, and every night he came into my dreams. I pleaded with him to wait till I got my wages, but he wouldnt relent. One midnight I fell into a drainpipethe lid had been stolen by junkies, but the authorities pay no attention.

He showed his arm, cast in plaster. You must be careful when you run, especially at midnight.
